Torn is an online text based RPG game that has managed to take text based RPGs to a whole new level with its insane amount of features and activities. Rarely do we ever come across a game, let alone a text based one, that’s so full of features it feels like you could play for hours upon hours every day and still not know the full game.
Starting off in Torn can be a daunting task because such an incredible amount of features also come with a pretty steep learning curve but it’s all worth it in the end and the game also has a pretty solid tutorial built-in to teach players some of the crucial basics and features of the game. As soon as you make an account and get into the game, you’ll be assigned a few tasks that will help you get familiar with the game and will also give you a sense of direction early on so you never feel like you’re lost.
Getting into the gameplay, Torn feels like a world of endless opportunity. The game is filled to the brim with activities to do. Before getting into detail on these it’s worth pointing out that the game completely leaves it up to the players what path they want to choose. You could either become a renowned criminal that many people fear or you could become the owner of an incredibly successful business and be respected by everyone around you. The possibilities of what you can achieve seem to have no end so your fate in Torn is completely dependent on how you play the game.
Going a bit further on activities, the game always assigns you with new missions to make sure that you have some sort of sense of direction. Other than these assigned missions you can do a ton of other things like getting a job, starting a company, buying your own house, work out at the gym, commit some crimes and of course attack other people to take their money or just for the heck of it. You can also specialize in certain things with the education feature. Pick any course you’d like to excel and this will greatly enhance your skills at said task. There are even some fun mini-games along the way like slots and what not.
In terms of visuals, there’s not a lot to say about the game since after all it is text based but it should be noted that it has been presented quite nicely. The interface is sleek and easy to navigate around and overall everything looks really clean so the game looks quite appealing when looked at as a whole.
As for micro-transactions, you can’t really buy anything using real world money in Torn which is ultimately a good thing as it keeps the game fair for the entire player-base as no one can purchase an advantage with real money.
